PCI-T Current Programs

Feed and Nurture Program

Donor: Philip Morris International in partnership with MKWAWA Leaf Tobacco Limited.
This program delivers nutritious meals to children in tobacco-growing communities to boost school attendance and help reduce child labor.

Currently operating at Usunga Primary School in Sikonge District, Tabora Region, with plans for expansion over the next three years.
The program fosters supportive learning environments, enhances nutrition and academic outcomes, and mitigates risks of child labor.

Key activities include meal provision, construction of kitchen and dining facilities, establishment of school gardens, and implementation of after-school programs.
PCI-T is expanding its staff to support program growth and strengthen local community engagement.

Primary Objective

Reduce child labor while improving school attendance and nutrition in tobacco-growing areas.

Location

Usunga Primary School, Sikonge District, Tabora Region

Key Activities

1. Provision of nutritionally balanced daily school meals to enhance learner concentration, attendance, and overall well-being.
2. Implementation of structured after-school programs, including academic support, life skills training, sports, and recreational activities to promote holistic child development and reduce vulnerability to child labor.
3. Support for school-based income-generating activities (IGAs) aimed at strengthening the sustainability of the school feeding program and enhancing community ownership and participation.

Overall Objective

To reduce child labor in tobacco-growing regions through an integrated intervention combining school feeding and structured after-school activities, thereby encouraging school attendance, improving child welfare, and promoting positive youth development.

Specific Objectives

1. Create a supportive school environment that encourages regular attendance and retention.
2. Improve nutritional status and academic performance through daily meals and educational support.
3. Reduce child labor by engaging children in structured after-school activities such as sports and life skills programs, promoting safe and productive use of time outside school hours.
