About PCI-T
About People’s Care Initiatives Tanzania (PCI-T)
People’s Care Initiatives Tanzania (PCI-T) is a registered, independent, non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to improving the quality of life for underserved and marginalized populations across Tanzania. Established in 2021 and formally registered in January 2022 under the NGOs Act of 2002 (Registration No. 00NGO/R/2812), PCI-T focuses on delivering sustainable, community-driven development solutions that empower children, youth, women, and entire communities.
The organization was founded by a dedicated team of development professionals with extensive experience from Global Communities, formerly Project Concern International (PCI). This team led the successful implementation of the McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program for over a decade in the Mara Region of Tanzania, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through this work, they gained invaluable insight into the complex challenges facing rural communities, including poverty, hunger, limited access to education, and health disparities.
Recognizing the need for locally owned and sustainable development initiatives, PCI-T was created to build on this experience and foster long-term change. Headquartered in Mwanza with a branch in Tabora, the organization operates through close collaboration with local government bodies, schools, parents, youth groups, and women’s organizations. This participatory approach ensures that programs are tailored to community needs and promote inclusive growth.
PCI-T’s core focus areas include child welfare, youth empowerment through skills training, women’s economic participation, improved access to quality education, health promotion, and food security. The organization is committed to fostering resilient communities by addressing root causes of social and economic inequities. Programs such as school feeding initiatives, community gardens, and after-school activities are designed to improve nutrition, reduce child labor, and increase school retention rates.
In addition to direct interventions, PCI-T prioritizes capacity building and stakeholder engagement to strengthen local institutions and ensure program sustainability. Monitoring and evaluation are integral to its operations, providing evidence-based insights that guide continuous improvement.
Gender inclusion and digital literacy are also key pillars of PCI-T’s strategy. The organization promotes the active involvement of women and girls in leadership and economic activities while encouraging positive male participation in advancing gender equity. Furthermore, PCI-T supports initiatives that enhance digital skills among youth, bridging the technology gap and creating new economic opportunities.
Looking ahead, PCI-T aims to expand its programs to reach more communities across Tanzania, build strategic partnerships, and mobilize resources to maximize impact. With a strong foundation in community empowerment and a commitment to innovation and transparency, PCI-T is dedicated to transforming lives and building a prosperous future for all Tanzanians.
